IMPROVE YOUR HEALTH
Most often, people regard enjoying good health as a matter of chance or something they cannot control. This notion holds a lot of people back from improving their health as well as leading a more productive life.
Also, a lot of us have failed to realize the link between our habits and our health. Whether rich or poor, our habits most often than not, has an influence on our health! In the real sense, each and everyone of us can take necessary steps to improve our health and that of our friends and or family.

 A. EAT WISELY
As a first step, we need to be mindful of what we eat. This simply means what goes into our mouth. The need to eat good food cannot be over emphasized. One should concentrate on eating fresh foods rather than modern processed foods where the natural ingredients that were supposed to be beneficial to the body has been depleted. When cooking, we should try steaming, baking or broiling food instead of frying. The amount of salt should be cut down, and herbs or spices used instead. Meats should be cooked properly and spoiled foods should not be eaten.
Eating should not be in excess. That is, do not over eat or eat too much. The WHO reports a dangerous world wide increase in overweight and obese people-which is often the result of over eating.
Our foods should be mostly from plants. Once or twice a week, we should try substituting fish for meat. Refined foods such as pasta, white rice, etc which have been stripped of their nutritional value should be reduced and dangerous fad diets should also be done away with. Thoroughly washed fresh fruits can be used as snacks instead of chips or candy.
What goes into the mouth also involves drinking of fluids. adults and children alike need to drink plenty of water and other unsweetened liquids everyday. A lot of liquids (unsweetened) should be taken during hot weather and when doing a lot of work and exercise. The liquids help during digestion and also cleanse our body of poison. It also makes for a healthy skin and promotes weight loss. Drinking excessive alcohol and sweetened drinks should be avoided.
In communities where there are no good drinking water, tainted water should be boiled or treated chemically . Dirty water kills more people than wars or earthquakes and a World Health Organization (WHO) report has it that dirty water kills over 4,000 children a day. For infants, it recommends only breast-feeding for the first six months, then breast feeding plus some other foods until at least the age of two.

B. TAKE CARE OF BASIC BODY NEEDS
Our body needs to be taken good care of. Doing this can save us from a whole lot of health-related  problems
The basic care starts from getting enough rest because the demands of modern life have whittled away the time we spend sleeping. Sleep is essential to good health. Research has shown that our body and brain repair themselves during sleep and this benefits good memory and mood.
Sleep also reinforces our immune system and reduces our risk of infection, diabetes, and stroke. It also reduces heart disease, cancer, obesity, depression, and Alzheimer's disease. Most people try to artificially bypass sleepiness with sweets, caffeine, and other stimulants rather than get some sleep. This posses great danger to the body.
Adults need seven to eight hours of sleep every night so as to look good, feel and perform their work. Young people on the other hand need more. Teens deprived of sleep are prone to have psychological troubles and to fall asleep when  driving.
Sleep is important when we are sick and our body can overcome some sicknesses such as common cold when we get enough sleep and drink plenty of water.
Taking care of ourselves also include taking care of the teeth. Brushing the teeth and flossing after meals and especially before going to bed helps ward-off germs which might cause tooth decay, gum disease, and tooth loss. Without the teeth, we would not benefit fully from the food we eat. Reports have it that elephants do not die of old age, but that they slowly starve to death after their teeth wear down and they no longer chew properly.
To add to the above, we need to go to the doctor as another step in taking good care of our health. Some ailments call for good medical attention. This is because early diagnosis usually leads to a better outcome and less expense as a ''stitch in time saves nine!!'' So, if you feel you are not your normal self, get help from a qualified medical doctor. This will help eliminate the cause rather than merely eliminating the symptoms.
Regular medical checkups from accredited healthcare providers can head off many serious problems and put you at ease.
