THE HUMAN BRAIN

The human brain is one of the most complex organ in the body of an organism! It is the center of the nervous system where all instructions emanate from. We humans cannot comprehend the complexity of the human brain.

 

                                                                                                                                                                                 








                                                     




                                     

It is made up of more than 100 billion nerves that communicate in trillions of connections called synapses.

The brain is enclosed in the cranium and this protects it against injuries. It has specialized areas that work together and these include:
- The outermost layer is the cortex. This coordinates thinking and voluntary movements.
-The brain stem is between the spinal cord and the rest of the brain and it is responsible for basic functions like breathing and sleep.
 -The basal ganglia consists a cluster of structures in the center of the brain. It  coordinate messages between multiple other brain areas. 

-The cerebellum is at the base and the back of the brain and is responsible for coordination and balance.

The brain is also divided into several lobes:
1. The frontal lobes are responsible for problem solving and judgment and motor function.
2.The parietal lobes control sensation, handwriting, and body position.
3.The temporal lobes are involved with memory and hearing.
4.The occipital lobes contain the brain's visual processing system.

The brain is surrounded by a layer of tissue called the meninges.
