THE UNIQUENESS OF THE SUN

THE SUN
The Solar System derives its energy from the Sun. This makes the sun the ultimate source of energy for the earth and other planets.
The sun is a star of medium size. It is the closest to the earth and this makes it appear larger and brighter than all other stars in the solar system. The distance of the earth from the sun varies at different times between when the sun is closest to the earth, known in astronomy as perihelion and when it is fartrhest from the earth- aphelion. At perihelion, the sun is about 147,053,000 km from the earth and at aphelion, it is about152,138,000 km. However, the average distance of the sun from the earth is approximately149,591,000 km from the earth.
The sun has an average diameter of 1,392,000 km and a volume of about 1,300,000 times that of the earth. Almost all the mass of the solar system is concentrated in the sun and its surface gravity is 28 times that of the earth. The sun has a surface temperature of about 6000 Kelvin.
Although we think that the sun does not move; it do rotates on its axis from east to west and it is inclined at about 7 degrees to its elliptic plane.
